N the past few years the University of New Hampshire has experienced a gradual, but continual development, until it has reached a position at the top of the state universities of New England. No small part of this upward movement has been due to our president, Edward M. Lewis. Com- ing to New Hampshire at a critical time, just after the mill tax bill had been passed by the state legislature, he has skillfully administered the scholastic side of the school, and has supervised an extensive building pro- gram. One of the most important steps in this building program was the con- struction of Charles James Hall, a chemistry building, second to none in the entire country. The Charles Hood House, a modern medical hos- pital which is now nearing comple- tion, will fill a long felt want at this school. The erection of this building was made possible through the gen- erosity of Charles Hood, Class of 1880. Large new barns have been erected for the Agricultural College, EDWARD M- LEWIS and ground has just been broken for a new dormitory for women. These new facilities will serve to greatly increase the efiiciency of our faculty, and will help meet the needs of a constantly growing student body. It is to be hoped that the affairs of the University will remain in the cap- able hands of President Lewis and his staff for many years to come, and that the growth and progress of the past will continue indefinitely.
