10. Opening Columbia is a city with a never ending supply of things to do or see. Sometimes you had to make up the event yourself, sometimes the entertainment was provided. A sunny after- noon would fill the quad with frisbees, footballs, people seek- ing that all-important face time and, oh yeah, shanties. If you were lucky enough to venture off campus, you were likely to see somebody in a race. Columbia loves races, from biking to jogging t0 elec- tions. It must have something to do with being half-way from ev- erywhere. cl: Iir

12. Opening S t Norvell Scott No Winter in Columbia is, well, it's not humid. Itls not so much the snow that you have to deal with, itls the blasted ice. A sim- ple walk to class becomes a test of balance and humility. Not only is it a pain to dig your car out of its parking spot, it's worse to stand at Hearnes for 20 minutes waiting for the bus. But a look past all the incon- viences reveals a beautiful, peaceful setting, oblivious to the inhabitant's suffering.
