The school is a charter member of the Asso- ciation of American Law Schools and has numbered among its faculty nationally known leaders in legal education. Glenn A. McCleary has served with distinc- tion as Dean of the Faculty of Law since 1940.

Arts and Science The College of Arts and Science, oldest of the nine divisions of the University and largest in point of numbers, provides the basic courses for entrance to the professional schools. The aims of the College are to furnish a liberal education and to aid the student in de- veloping an intellectual versatility. Frank F. In 1914 the Board of Curators established a division of the University to be known as the School of Commerce, whose purpose, according to the records of the earliest faculty minutes, was to prepare the student for the investiga- tion and mastery of the practical organization and administration of business.
