' r he are Tradition: ep allie 41: in , v , I , P 34 at sznce SGA 5:1f:'.'an and g-:sed of fra- :6 of leading il The tradition of the pep rally came back full force to the Missouri campus in 1945 and then reached a high state of development. There is nothing particu- larly scientific about a pep rally. One just goes to it and yells like mad until his face turns red, or in the case of really advanced pepsters, purple. But a pep rally's effect on school spirit Ca somewhat vague terminologyj is miraculous. It encourages the team. It makes the cheerers thirstyg they visit the Shack, sometimes the Dixie, and so good fellowship flows like the three-point-two. Our two top scenes are of the bonfire Cand some of its brighter sparksj before the Nebraska football game, which Missouri won . . . . . because of the pep rally no doubt. The bottom cut shows another specie of pep rally, the indoor variety. This one is in Brewer Field House. 7 ,W W 7, - 1 'f W, ' ff' Y ' 'ffi

+- nd Fro h Whitewa bin the H 9' Another tradition which came back along with pep rallies and big time Home- coming Clook to the rightj, was white- washing the HM. This year the delicate operation consisted of the upper classmen telling the freshmen to get the hell out to the stadium and whiten up the bed-of- rocks M for the football season. The freshmen, always willing to please, and not having much to say about it anyway, according to tradition scurried out to Memorial Stadium and applied the white- wash under the careful supervision of their benefactors, the upperclassmen. In normal times this affair would have provided a gala battle between the frosh and the sophomores, who traditionally cause the first-year men to perform this act. Yes, times have changed and there is Ray Taylor, President of SGA, white- washing in the bottom pic. There isn't much more to be said about this except that at the last the whitewash was about evenly divided between the M and the frosh clothing. The middle shot is of that animal the indoor pep rally, which seems to have strolled over from page nine. Gray Hay is leading the assemblage, and there's Fred Papert way over to the right.
