Flint THE STUDENT COUNCIL The Student Council, a new organization on our campus, was established last fall. It is the first governing body of its kind to be in existence at West Central. The Student Council came into being as a result of the conviction that there should be some central student organization which would have a voice in school government. | Another purpose was to bring students and faculty in closer contact. : Early in the fall term Superintendent Fenske and the presidents of the various | classes met and drew up the constitution and by-laws which were presented to the stu- | dent body at the next regular assembly meeting. There they met with the unani- | mous approval of the student body and were accepted in substantially the same form | as that in which they were presented by the committee. | Four members were then selected from each class. These names were put on one ballot. The student body selected the two representatives from each class from this ballot. The members elected to the Council are as follows: Special Class— Lillian Petersen and Leslie Campbell; Advanced Class—Dorothy Hanson and Dale Benson; Senior Class—Dolly Petersen and Stanley Block; Junior Class—Mable Olson and James Flint; Freshman Class—Kathryn Kay and Hero Maertens. A meeting was conducted November 3 to elect officers. James Flint was elected President; Stanley Block, Vice-President; and Dorothy Hanson, Secretary-Treasurer. Mr. A. W. Edson was selected as the faculty adviser by the Council members. Regu- lar meetings of the Student Council are conducted the first Wednesday of every month. The activities of the Student Council are varied. The first project undertaken by this organization was the editing and publishing of the school news. Many other activities have been taken over by the Council such as the supervision of the skating rink and the sponsorship of assembly programs.

‘“‘MUSIC HATH CHARMS .... .”’ A great number of musically talented stu- dents report each semester for participation in the musical organizations. 'The Mixed Chorus is always an asset to the Music Department. From this group are selected a Boys’ Quartette and a Mixed Quartette. These groups appear on various assembly and out-of-town programs. During the fall term the Mixed Quartette had the opportunity of appearing on a radio pro- gram which was broadcasted over the Fargo Station. The presence of the band at football games added much spirit to these occasions. The choral groups are under the direction of Miss O’Connor and the instrumental organi- zations under that of Mr. Anderson. THE MIXED QUARTETTE E. Cook, R. Schlattman, H. Eide, D.
