APRIL From this international panorama, the eye focuses on the college campus, and specifically to the month of show- ers. Almost in entire contrast to the general moroseness of the world outside the campus, students seem to be in one constant whirlwind of good times and entertainment. All of us will rememlier the impres- sive convocation in which Rodgers and Hammerstein received their degrees from Governor Herter as Doctors of Humane Letters. The ceremony was coupled with the presentation of a de- lightful musical interlude consisting of pieces composed by these famous ar- tists. Meanwhile the fraternities and so- rorities were joining hands to present the main social event on campus during this month — Greek ' eek. Many were delightfully surprised with the fraternity skits which proved to the campus at large that they could present entertainment at a higher level than had been demonstrated in the past. The fraternity sing was excellent, as usual, and top honors were received by Sig Ep. The sorority sing provided an evening of enjoyment for all those who didn ' t participate and an evening of tension for all those who did. The theme this year was songs of different lands and the honors were given to Pi Phi. Ralph Flanagan was called upon to entertain at the traditional Greek 16

APRIL shot down are still being reported. Should America go to war to protect her citizens abroad? Only recently thir- teen Americans were seized by a foreign power and sentenced to imprisonment. Fear of Communism is widespread, resulting in the creation of a campaign such as that w aged by Senator Mc- Carthy, faced with the disapproval of fellow senators. Scientists find little time to create uses for atomic material as a peacetime benefit: attention is turned to bigger and better bombs, rocket-ships, and atom-propelled sub- marines. At times the college-campus seems far removed from these world-shaking events; and yet, upon the graduation of thousands from universities and col- leges this year, America will look to them as future leaders. Therefore no year-in-review could possibly be com- plete without the realization that the era ahead of us is a treacherous one, calling for judicious decision and help from this year ' s college graduate.
