' ROFESSORS IN RETIREMENT Professor Newlon retired last summer after serving the University for some thirty years. He taught courses in forge and farm shop work, and was for several years in charge of machine-shop courses. His enthusiasm was carried into his spare time activities also; and, since the founding of the Stockbridge school, he has worked with every class in that branch of the University. . . . FAITH In the retirement of John Broadfoot the University has lost a capable and efficient administrator. As Assistant Treas- urer he gave fully of his talents, and his knowledge of University business procedures classed him as an author- ity. The rapid growth of the University in recent years called for such conscientious attention as that which he directed toward the problems in the Treasurer ' s ' Office. Under the direction of Curry Hicks, The Department of Physical Education has progressed from a humble beginning to its present stature in the University. Alumni Field, the Physical Education building, and the establishment of Physical Education as a major course of study have become re- alities. To those who know and love Curry Hicks, he is Mister Physical Education himself — the man to whom so many owe so much. Professor Osmun graduated from Connecticut Agricultural Col- lege, received his master ' s degree on our campus in 1905, was re- tained as instructor in botany and became head of the department in 1915. Through his untiring ef- forts, the department has flour- ished within the crowded confines of Clark Hall. He can well be proud of this legacy to the new department head. After forty years, a teacher has become one of our professors emeriti. Walter E. Prince ' s pres- ence on this campus will not soon be forgotten by either students or colleagues, for his is the rare gift of attaining the high standard for himself which he expected of those with whom he came in con- tact. In his classroom literature lived.
