FOR HIS LEADERSHIP Administrative head of the University of Massachusetts is Dr. Ralph Albert Van Meter, who has been with the University since 1917. After having held such administrative positions as Head of the Division of Horticulture, Head of the Department of Pomology, Dean of the School of Horticulture, and Acting President of the University, Dr. Van Meter took over the presidency in 1948 as successor to President Emeritus Hugh Potter Baker.

...THEIR SERVICES Handling the University ' s finances is Robert Dorman Hawley, who has been Treasurer since 1939. Mr. Hawley previously served as Secretary of Massachusetts State College. The responsibilities of Registrar Marshall Olin Lanphear include supervision of admissions, registration, and scheduling; issuance of grade reports; and preparation of the University ' s catalog. Since 1939 James William Burke has performed the Secretary ' s function of administrative assistant to the president.
