THE COLOGNE CHAMBER ORCHESTRA The Cologne Chamber Orchestra ' s debut tour of the United States in February and March. 1969. was such a musical and popular success that the distinguished en- semble returns here in the winter of 1970 for a second sold-out tour. Helmut Mueller-Bruhl founded the Cologne Chamber Orchestra in 1960 in order to present concerts in the famed Augustusburg-Bruhl Castle, near Cologne. Built between 1725 and 1770, the Castle is one of the most joy- ful examples of the Baroque period in architecture. It was created by Clemens August who had an exceptional sen- sitivity and appreciation of the arts. It was the wish to fill the beautiful castle again with life and joy which led, in 1958, to the founding of the Bruhl Castle Concerts and after two seasons of concerts with various ensembles, Mr. Mueller-Bruhl founded the Co- logne Chamber Orchestra. The success of the new or- chestra was overwhelming and led to the establishment of a series of twenty-five concerts each season within the Castle. The orchestra has since toured Europe extensively, and has traveled to the Far East for concerts: recordings by the Cologne Chamber Orchestra have been awarded the Grand Prix du Disque and the G rand Prix du Dis- cophiles.
