MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT In 1947, John Taylor Williams said, like Archimedes, If I had a place to stand, I could move the world of Maryland State College. Twenty-one years later, the President is standing firmly on his place. He has seen major and minor miracles of growth that moved miniscule Princess Anne College to an institution of strength, not only on the Shore but throughout the nation. Contributing to the strength have been quadrupling the enrolment; quadrupling the actual buildings; and multiplying efforts to build new levels of academic accomplishment; for example, making scholarly research a reality on the campus. The full measure of valor, wisdom, sweat, toil and perhaps heartache given into his first twenty-one years by the President may never be written. But the reward is in the lives of hundreds of men and women whom Maryland State College has trained to become responsible, respectably employed citizens — be they scientists, educators, technicians, home-makers, or professional athletes. Challenged by unparalleled, fast-moving events toward the twenty-first century, our President re- dedicates himself, in his twenty-second year, to the ideal of development of the individual. He re-states that the College was founded for the individual student, and that this truth will never change.
