Dr. John J. Bergquist HONORARY SENIOR CLASS PRESIDENT Rarely does an entire class have the opportunity to repay, at least in part, the great amount of time, effort, and genuine concern displayed by a particular instructor; and rarer still has anyone so markedly deserved such appreciation as Dr. John ). Bergquist. His immense abil- ity to share his knowledge in a manner that is both instructive and stimulating is unparalled, as is his tremendous concern for us all. It is with sincere appreciation, that the Class of 1979 has re-elected Dr. John J. Excellence of instruction was not a sufficient criteria to uti- lize in selecting an honorary class president. It separated too few of the faculty we have worked with in the past three years. What has made Bob Haroth outstanding in our minds is the fact that he, more than others, expressed a personal satis- faction in our successes, in the classroom and in the clinic. His tireless insistance that we master the theories and com- cepts has made the clinic a more rewarding experience for us all. Fraternally, the alumni sponsored an Alumni Undergraduate Program, highlighted by a dinner- speaker evening. Baltimore Alumni and Zeta Mu enjoyed several Monday night scientific dinners which fea- tured guest speakers. The close contact of members helped to build a large pledge class in Rush Week 78. A Wine and Cheese party and Rush Breakfast were the featured events of the week. Socially, the fraternity spon- sored a September Welcome Back Crab Feast at the Other Barn in Columbia, Maryland. An Evening at Ski Liberty was also enjoyed by fraters as well as our annual Winter Party, which featured wine, cheese, deli, and a disc jockey. Topping the social season, Zeta Mu attended the annual Spring Away Weekenci in Ocean City, Maryland. In support of the international fraternity and the Alpha Omega Foundation, Zeta Mu embarkecJ on a T-shirt sales campaign to raise funds to donate to the FHebrew University Dental School in Jerusalem, Israel. Alpha Omega founded and maintains that institution. Dinner meetings and social get-togethers helped the brothers and sisters of Psi-O to take a break from the academic world and relax. Activities included a picnic at Miami Beach (Balto. Co.), Sailing Night on the Inner Har- bor, a cocktail party on the 16th floor of the World Trade Center overlooking the Inner Harbor, and an evening at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. An open party and joint undergraduate alumni breakfast comprised Rush Week activities. The year ended with Psi O ' s biggest event — the Fac- ulty Appreciation and Awards night. Fraternalism and the high standards of the dental profession are qualities one can find in Psi Omega. Today there are 30 chapters in the United States Dental Schools. The founders of SNDA sought to develop an organization that would speak to such issues as recruitment retention; the dental health needs of minority communities; and future issues confronting organized dentistry. The University of Maryland Chapter of SNDA was chartered in 1973. Since that time the membership has increased significantly. The Maryland Chapter is currently involved in viable academic, social, and community projects which are conducive to the overall professional development of minority dental students. Front Row: V. I thought you may be interested. Dee Williams is a vital and integral part of student life at the University of Maryland Dental School. Her importance is realized in all matters concerning the SDA, the Mirror, the Probe, and many other student activities. Forty-three years later, the Student Den- tal Association has been making great strides in student affairs. The SDA seeks to modify student life in the School and strives to make the stay in school a pleasant one. The SDA attempts to accomplish this goal by alter- ing the physical environment both inside and outside the school, providing input to various faculty council committees, relieving the stress of school via parties, and by providing additional learning experiences. This year marked the beginning of many new ' programs including: Speaker ' s Series, Studio 666, the ' NEW Lounge, and Sugar Awareness Week. The traditional programs like the Bull Roast, Superstar Weekend, and the many auxiliary SDA Committees improved with age. We are currently one of the strongest Student Govern- ments in the Country. Only continuing growth and influence can occur on the stable base provided by the 1979 SDA. Your patients expect and deserve the best. Otherwise, they become another doctor ' s pa- tient. So you cannot afford to demand anything less than the best from your dental laboratory. Take a hard look at your present dental laboratory and the services they provide. Do they offer you all the services you need, or do you have to call different labs for different ser- vices because of limited capabilities? Do their production schedules meet your requirements? Are their prices outrageous? Can they handle your intricate and detailed prescriptions? Aronovitch Dental Laboratories has the repu- tation for being the best... that ' s why we ' ve become one of the biggest labs in the Baltimore Washington area. We are a full service laboratory providing pros- thetic and restorative services that cover the complete spectrum of general dentistry. From fabricating porcelain fused to gold, porcelain jackets, Cermalloy® crowns and bridges, removable partials and full dentures or precision removable partials... give your patients the best.
