The Society is named after Dr. Ferdi- nand J. Gorgas, a pioneer in dental education and a great contributor to dental literature, and it was with the idea of perpetuating his name that the Society adopted it. The Society makes for its objective the fur- therance of dental knowledge by discussion and lectures. Gorgas is comprised of junior and sen- ior members whose scholastic endeavors have placed them in at least the top third of their class. D. 117 Zeta Mu Chapter of Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity planned a Calendar complete in the tenets of the frater- nity. Academics were emphasized throughout the year as seen in monthly seminars with both local and non- local alumni. Fraternally, the alumni sponsored an Alumni Undergraduate Program, highlighted by a dinner- speaker evening. Baltimore Alumni and Zeta Mu enjoyed several Monday night scientific dinners which fea- tured guest speakers. The close contact of members helped build a large pledge class in Rush Week ' 77. A Wine and Cheese Tasting party and Rush Breakfast were the featured events of the week. Socially, the frater- nity sponsored a September Welcome Back Crab Feast at Pier 7 on the scenic South River. An Evening at Ski Liberty was also enjoyed by fraters as well as our annual Winter Party, which featured wine, cheese, deli, movies, and a band. Topping the social season, Zeta Mu attended the annual Spring Away Weekend in Colo- nial Williamsburg. In support of the international fraternity and the Alpha Omega Foundation, Zeta Mu embarked on a T-shirt sales campaign to raise funds to donate to the Hebrew University Dental School in Jerusalem, Israel. Alpha Omega founded and maintains that institution. Delegates from Zeta Mu attended the International Convention in Dearborn, Mich, where Zeta Mu was awarded the Chapter Efficiency Award for the best all-around Alpha Omega undergraduate chapter. Dinner meet- ings and social get-togethers helped the brothers and sisters of Psi-0 to take a break from the academic world and relax. Activities included a Sailing Night on the Inner Har- bor, Colt Night, a dinner theater and a panel discussion sponsored by the alumni Oriole Chapter. An open party and joint undergradu- ate alumni breakfast comprised Rush Week activities. The year ended with Psi O ' s biggest event — the Faculty Appreciation and Awards night. Fraternalism and the high standards of the dental profession are qualities one can find in Psi Omega. The officers and faculty advisor have worked diligently this year to achieve these worthwhile objectives for the Psi Omega membership.
