33alttmore College of Bental g urserp Baltimore has justly been called the cradle of dentistry, as it was here that the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, which bears the distinction of being the oldest and for many years, the only dental college in the world, was conceived and brought forth; and here, also, the degree of D.D.S. (Doctor of Dental Surgery) was originated. The Uves of two men, Dr. Chapin A. Harris and Dr. Horace H. From 1827 to 1833 he traveled South and West, elevating the profession of dentistry and establishing his reputation. In 1833 he opened an oflEice in Baltimore and wrote largely on dental subjects. In 1839 he published his first edition of his Principles and Practice of Dental Surgery.
