Wasn't it supposed to be here in November? Can I have my money back? Is there going to be a yearbook? How will I know when to pick it up? Why haven't I received my yearbook yet? I paid for it, where is it? The legend behind the 1981 Prism Yearbook nears completion by Naomi Laskc Staff Writer The 1981 PRISM yearbook will be completed in about two weeks and sent to be published after a long delay and a lot of work, said Laurel Morrison. PRISM business manager. “Cathy (Denning), the 1982 yearbook editor, is working on the 1981 yearbook now, Morrison said. The delay in putting the yearbook together was due to the negligence of the 1980-81 PRISM editor, Carol Wilshire. Morrison said. When school got out in the spring of 1981. Carol moved to Colorado, where she said she would complete the yearbook and would send it in to be published from there.” she said. PRISM Advisor. Jack Walas said under normal conditions, the yearbook is sent to the publisher. Hunter Publishing. N.C.. in June. When classes began in Sep- tember. 1981. the yearbook still wasn’t finished, but Wilshire said it would be completer! within a week. Morrison said. After a number of failed attempts to gel in touch with Wilshire to obtain the rest of the yearbook. Morrison called upon Walas. who had an ct|uall difficult lime finding her. It was ridiculous, like cops and robbers. Laurel finally tracked her (Wilshire) down.” Walas said. Morrison said Wilshire gave her all Of the materials she had when she found her late m the tall semester. She finally gave us 42 pages which brought our total up to 115 out of a 514 page book, Morrison said. Denning, who is presently putting the 1982 yearbook together, said the work load has been heavy, but that she is almost finished with it. It was reduced to 272 pages due to lack of photos. We regret that the 1981 Prism was so late. The 1982 Prism will be here on time in November. After the season, Maine's all-time leading scorer, senior center Cary Conn, was awarded All-American status, while Conn and junior goalie Jeff Nord were invited to try out for the United States International hockey squad. 129 130 — Men's Women's Indoor Track 133 r c- X i 36 Men's Women's Swimming i 137 139 140 141 Women's Basketball The Black Bear women's basketball team, a blend of youth and experience, won its fourth consecutive State basketball title. Coach Eileen Fox's club was undefeated in in-state competi- tion, while also competing against some of New England's finest. The team finished off the season with a lf -7 record. t42 I Basketball Facing the toughest schedule in New England, the Black Bear basketball team earned a berth in the ECAC-North playoffs for the second consecu- tive year where they made it to the semi-finals. Other Black Bear highlights included a hard- fought 85-77 loss to top-ranked DePaul and par- ticipation in the Champion Christmas Classic at Missoula, Montana. They sleep when they can and occassionally have to run to make a class. They have to trek to the library or computer center when their hearts may not be in it. They're subject to peer and family pressures too. Greeks are also subject to the same lines to cash checks and to buy books. They study hard and they party hard. They are decent, worth-knowing people. 168 i What Greeks do otherwise sets them apart from others. To begin with, getting into the brotherhood or sisterhood isn't easy. Rush parties, come-back parties then pledging and Hell week — it all takes a lot of time and effort. Once in, Greeks are serving, serving, serving. They serve each other, the University and the community. The Greeks' service to UMO is well or- chestrated in part by The Panhellenic Council and The Fraternity Board. Unmis- takenly Greeks are the ones responsible for blood drives. They promote dance-a- thons, skate-a-thons and just about any- thing-a-thons to raise money for local and State charities. They visit nursing homes and hospital wards. One fraternity spon- sors a used book service to help students deal with the ever rising cost of textbooks. But with all charity and service aside, Greeks know how to make a good time. Their legacy goes on in regards to the fact. Mudbowls, Winter Carnival (if there's snow enough) and their own Greek Week- end attest to this. They have a roaring good time and competition is fun. 169 y 170 % 173 4 4 174 V 175 176 •J u Student Government MlfcN 0FF-CMM it MIKE MURRA i?a 181 182 Senior Council University Volunteer Ambulance Corps UVAC 183 184 185 Marching Band I 187 188 University Singers 189 E. 192 194 9f l 197 Softball 198 199 200 _______________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________ 201 203 04 205 Graduation 1981 , 209 210 I 211 212 213 214 I 215 rft 216 t 218 219 I tf£WWIMW 11J 224 225 David Abbe Carolynn Adams Kay Adams Susan Adams Craig Adam Donald Additon Jeffrey Adler Doreen AKerley Mary Albans Heidi Albert Melinda Allen Raymond Allen Richard Allen Michell Amato Kathy Amber Jeffrey Ames Bray Anderson J.
