The 1954 THOROUGHBRED, along with your diploma and transcript cred- its, is the outward and visible record of your years in the University of Louisville. It is a reminder of the years' activities and friendships with fellow students and with faculty. It is a catalogue of triumphs and, some- times, disappointments, victories and, occasionally, defeats, of good times and those that were not so good. In the years to come, as the pictures fade and the edges of the book become dog-eared, the memories the THOR- OUGHBRED calls up will also become mellowed and in the light of experi- ence take on a different color. But you will go back to the THOROUGH- BRED if only to find out whether the man whose picture you see in the paper is the same boy who sat next to you in Physics or to find the name T of the girl who was cheerleader in your senior year. But there is more in the THOROUGHBRED than can be pictured on its pages. The book is a symbol of the bonds that should unite all you students of the University whether you be man or woman, professional or academic, day or night. The first of these bonds, I think, is the common objective of high intellectual endeavor, of striv- ing to learn those portions of the accumulated wisdom of the ages that are important
