El ltl HARTT COLLEGE BAND The Hartt College Band is a concert group of symphonic proportions, in which the students are given the opportunity to play the best in concert band and wind literature. Performance under the direction of Mr. Israel Kopmar are given for scholar- ship concerts and benefits in the public schools as well as for ceremonial occa- sions ofthe University. HARTFORD ART SCHOOL STUDENT ALLIANCE The task of acting as liaison between the student body and the administra- tion at the Hartford Art School falls to the Student Alliance. This, however, is not the only function of the Alliance, composed of representatives of each class. Educational, social, and athletic activities comprise another part of the Alliance's undertakings. Once a month its members meet to provide for lectures, field trips such as museum visits, parties, dances, and a picnic to culminate the year's events. - - -- -. 5: .' l n--,li-du.--4-,-.. ff-...... ......, .A if-we ' , , GAMMA SIGMA NU A banquet at the Parma Restaurant with Mr. George Athanson as guest speaker, the Miss Hillyer contest, and initiation activities highlighted the social events of Gamma Sigma Nu, Hillyer's Liberal Arts fraternity. Occasionally, guest speakers are in- vited to meetings, sometimes to speak on specifically assigned topics and other times on topics of their own choice, which are informative and educational. A smoker was held for prospective members, and from this group five men were initiated into the fra- ternity. To conclude a successful year, Gamma Sigma Nu presented the University of Hartford with three scholarships: one for the education department, one for the biology department, and one for the history department. . GAMMA CHI RHO The activities of Hillyer's Liberal Arts sorority were highlighted this year by the annual collection and distribution of Christmas gifts for the Oakhill School for the Blind and by the Tri-Sorority Banquet held iointly with the sisters of Phi Mu Sigma and Epsilon Xl Sigma. Each semester a tea and formal initiation are held to welcome girls who have met the requirements of outstanding schol- arship and leadership which entitle them to membership in Gamma Chi Rho. -V- lFront Rowj C. HARTT COLLEGE CHORUS The Hartt College Chorus is a selected group which meets twice a week, holds at least one annual concert, and performs for functions outside the school. The Chorus is open to students by audition only. The types of music which the Chorus presents include music for men's voices and for women's voices as well as for mixed chorus. HARTT STUDENT COUNCIL As the student government organization at Hartt, the Student Council regulates all social activities of the college, and works to improve student welfare. Members are also interested in the continuance of co-oper0Ti0n and good feeling among students, faculty, and administration.
