CHEERLEADERS B-E-A-T, beat the other team was the cry of Hartford Univer- sity's cheerleading ten this year as they brought school spirit and color to the basketball court. A fashionable group, the girls, co- captained by Peggy Easton and Tina Matsikas, added a new touch to their uniforms for the season with scarlet weskits over matching skirts. They have included many new and enthusiastic cheers in their repertoire. For the first time the squad traveled to all of the away games with the team and did much to spur the Hawks on to victory. Ever loyal, they could be counted on to keep up the team's spirit during the most trying moments of a game. CANTERBURY CLUB AT HARTT The National Canterbury Association, sponsored by the Epis- copal Church, was established to provide opportunities for Epis- copalian students, as well as any others who are interested, to receive spiritual guidance and religious study. Activities include regular meetings, concerts at local institutions, a square dance, and other social events. The Hartt Chapter conducts its religious guidance under the Reverend William F. Starr. The chapter is sponsored by Mr. James Mitchell. P. Atticlcs, P. Galetsa, S. Sardo, T. Matsikas, P. Easton, E. Rislcy, M. l n--,li-du.--4-,-.. ff-...... ......, .A if-we ' , , GAMMA SIGMA NU A banquet at the Parma Restaurant with Mr. George Athanson as guest speaker, the Miss Hillyer contest, and initiation activities highlighted the social events of Gamma Sigma Nu, Hillyer's Liberal Arts fraternity. Occasionally, guest speakers are in- vited to meetings, sometimes to speak on specifically assigned topics and other times on topics of their own choice, which are informative and educational. A smoker was held for prospective members, and from this group five men were initiated into the fra- ternity. To conclude a successful year, Gamma Sigma Nu presented the University of Hartford with three scholarships: one for the education department, one for the biology department, and one for the history department. .
