SOCCER TEAM The University soccer team of 1959 faced the roughest schedule of any college team in the state. Coach LoMagIio's squad, greatly weakened at graduation, required almost gn entire rebuilding iob. The team's final record of 3 wins, 5 losses, and 1 tie was quite respectable considering the opponents now being played and the team's inexperience, I Springfield College, American International College, Yale University, Norwich University, and Adelphi College were all new additions to the schedule. The Hawk booters played econd season as members of the New England Intercollegiate Soccer League, Captain of the 1959 team was Robert O'Brien, recipient of the sports MVP IMQ51 Valuable Player Awardl at the annual spring sports banquet. their s VM V -wp WW W .www WMM I -,,,,,, 77, , T. Second row, Ray Larabee. SWIMMING TEAM Captained by Wayne Bauer the first University varsity swimming team had a rough initial season. For their first schedule they had a program of five meets which were held away rather than at home due to the lack of a spectator-type pool at Hartford. St. .loseph's pool on Farmington Avenue in Hartford served as the practice pool for the Hartford Ducks who were coached by Edmund Cosker, Director of the COLLEGE . pool. In their first meets the team swam against colleges with teams well established for years. The win and loss record of their first season doesn't reflect the valuable experience gained by the swimmers for li X future years. There is very little doubt that the future holds areat pos- il sibilities for this new sport.
