Standing, back row, left to don, and Ronald Lesieur. CROSS COUNTRY TEAM The 1959 Cross Country team was the first step in the maior expansion of the Uni- versity's varsity athletic program. Beginning with a group of both experienced and inex- perienced runners the first season of this new sport saw the Hawk Harriers end with a 'I-l record. Baseball Coach Frank Klein and Basket- ball Coach Roy Spear combined efforts to arouse and maintain interest in the new sport. With the addition of cross country students now have a choice of two varsity sports for participation during the fall sea- son. With this year's experience to rely Upenf this team's future ,appears very bright. Next year the team will be a member of the New England Intercollegiate Cross Country Asso- ciation and thus eligible to enter in the annual New England Tournament to be run in Boston. ' 1oo l
