Promotion of Interest in Mathematics Dean of Science award bestowed Ioe Schell presides in auditorium The University of Dayton Mathematics Club was founded in December, 1940, under the direction of Dr. K. C. Schraut. The Club has for its purpose the promotion of interest in those branches of both pure and applied mathematics which seldom arise in undergraduate courses. To achieve its purpose, the organization brings together at bi-weekly meet- ings, for informal discussions, those students and members of the faculty who have demonstrated their interest in and the talent for mathematics. At the end of each semester, the Dean of Science award is bestowed to that member of the Club who presents the most interesting paper of that period. Officers for the year were: Ioseph Schell, presi- dent: Gordon Mills, vice-president: David Riney, secretary: Hilary Allemeier, treasurer, and Robert Thomson, S. M., publicity secretary. Dr. Schraut is faculty advisor.

Modern Advancements Create Enthusiasm Sigma Delta posed of students in pre-medical and associated fields. Having been active on the campus since 1936, its membership is open to students who meet requirements of scholarship, character, and interests. Activities duri of the society for scholarship and for the acquaintance with modern medical advancements. Bi-weekly business meetings were followed by lectures on variou and members. Subjects discussed were: Dentistry, Antibiotics, Socialized Medicine, Alcoholism, Liver Function Tests, Blood Irradiation, and Social aspects of the Medical profession. The annual social events were the fall Wiener- roast, the Christmas party, spring banquet, and the traditional pre-medical picnic at Edelweis Park. The official publication is the Sigma Delta Pi News, a monthly, present members.
