Solidarity Among Members is Goal Speakers. meetings and visits In the early part of Dec. 1936, the Mechanical Engineering Society was established through the efforts of Andrew Weber, S. M., Who served as advisor until 1949. Ierome H. Parr, S. M., now heads the Society as faculty advisor. The goal of this society is to develop a solidarity among its members, and by means of lectures and field trips to instill an appreciation for, and an understanding ot, the practical aspects of Mechan- ical Engineering in industry. Guest speakers at the monthly meetings included professional men from Wright Field, N. C. R. and Mueller Furnace Co. Senate Representatives Urge Co-operation Median for the organizations The Student Senate, completing its second year of activity as a subordinate legislative group of the student government, centered a large portion ot its interests on the Centennial activities of the school. ln cooperation with Student Council the Senate aided in University of Dayton Week and the Academic Convocation. Other activities of the organization were: Enter- ing activity dates on the school calendar. . .planning a Mardi Gras in the spring. . .airing the problems and plans of all the campus organizations. . .making new plans for Welcoming the freshmen. . .and urging cooperation and school spirit among all organiza- tions. Anniversary Year for Pi Delta's Features dance and picnics Pi Delta Rho, the Electrical Engineering Society, celebrated its tenth anniversary during the past school year. The organization was formed in 1940 as a successor to the Illuminating Engineering Society. As in the past and in conformity With the original aims of the organization, Weekly meetings were held at which papers were presented and topics of academic interest Were discussed. ln gen- eral the subjects discussed concerned the generation and distribution ot power and related electrical topics. Field trips to local television and industrial plants were taken to familiarize the members with the practical side of electrical engineering. The officers for the year were David Gordon, president: and Thomas Hoefiel, secretary-treasurer. Faculty advisors for the seminars were Mr. Morgan and Mr. Dunn. 13 4 .
