Senate Representatives Urge Co-operation Median for the organizations The Student Senate, completing its second year of activity as a subordinate legislative group of the student government, centered a large portion ot its interests on the Centennial activities of the school. ln cooperation with Student Council the Senate aided in University of Dayton Week and the Academic Convocation. Other activities of the organization were: Enter- ing activity dates on the school calendar. . .planning a Mardi Gras in the spring. . .airing the problems and plans of all the campus organizations. . .making new plans for Welcoming the freshmen. . .and urging cooperation and school spirit among all organiza- tions. Bob Tormey, Iim Leary, lack Bramlage, Pete Kuntz, Centennial Functions Among Projects Median for the students Leo presides over council business The Student Council is the median through which the students voice their opinions, suggestions and criticisms. The representatives of the Student Council were named at class elections and the president of each class is automatically made a member. This year the Student Council assisted in the arrangements of various centennial functions. Enter- taining approximately lOU student representatives ot 52 Ohio colleges on October 18 is an example oi its Work. Another project undertaken by the Council was the designing of a calendar of events to eliminate the duplication oi events. Solidarity Among Members is Goal Speakers. meetings and visits In the early part of Dec. 1936, the Mechanical Engineering Society was established through the efforts of Andrew Weber, S. M., Who served as advisor until 1949. Ierome H. Parr, S. M., now heads the Society as faculty advisor. The goal of this society is to develop a solidarity among its members, and by means of lectures and field trips to instill an appreciation for, and an understanding ot, the practical aspects of Mechan- ical Engineering in industry. Guest speakers at the monthly meetings included professional men from Wright Field, N. C. R. and Mueller Furnace Co. Officers for the past year were: Neal Breesman, president: Larry Fitzgerald, vice-president: Merrill Ridgway, secretary: and Iohn Cherry, treasurer- publicity director. Official meeting of M. E. S.
