Lack- ner may well be regarded as the link between student activ- ity and academic recognition. Always ready with constructive suggestions, he now completes his second year in supervising and maintaining school records. l Brother Jerome McAvoy Bro. Jerome McAvoy fills the important position of Business Manager for the University. On him rest the budgetary respon- sibilities, the authority for all disbursements, new installae tions and buildings, and in general, the supervision over all the temporalities necessary for academic efficiency. To carry out these duties, Bro. Mc- Avoy is assisted by Bra, William Dap- per as Treasurer, Bro. James Kline as Purchasing Agent, and Bro. Joseph Meder as Maintenance Director. Charles L. Collins, S.M. Those titles mean work, particularly in these days when enrollment at the Uni- versity has reached its highest level, but Father Collins is more than equal to the tasks he must perform, Acting quickly and wisely, he performs his many jobs with the calm, serene composure that fails to disclose the pressure of the responsibility that rests upon his shoulders. 2 Brother Austin l-lol ian Guidance is the important task concerning Brother Austin J. Holian, S.M., dean of the College of Engineering. Having one of the largest student en- rollments at the University, the College of Engineering poses many problems, involving class- room space, plans for new buildings, the adjustments in curriculum required by modern engineering developments, and the maintenance of high schol- astic standards indicative bf a good engineering college. That Brother l-lolian has succeeded in solving these many problems is graphically exemplified by the quality of the graduates from the college and by the high scholastic standing the college has attained. Brother Louis A. Saletel Versatility is typified in Bro- ther Louis A. Saletel, S. M., Associate Dean of Science, Professor and head of the De' partment of Geology, and Ad- visor of the Daytonian. The departments of Mathematics, Physical and Biological Sci- ences, Nursing and Medical Technology are growing stead- ily under his careful hand, his students find him a ready and capable guide in their varied problems. Despite the many duties placed on him by the Science Division, he directs the Daytonian, providing the many photographs even to the point of occasionally taking the photographs himself. Father l-lenry Kobe, S.M. Returning to the University of Dayton in l946, after serve ice as a U. S. Army chaplain, the genial Rev. Henry J. Kobe, S.M., once more took up his important duties as Dean of the College of Arts and Sci- ences. As Dean, Father Kobe has the important task of assisting the Arts students in planning well-rounded and complete schedules. Father Kobe is able to render the student valuable service in the selection of courses. l-lis years of valuable experience are enriched by a keen awareness of human na- tures and by an innate ability to guide with wisdom and sin- Cerity.
