Myers, J. Gilvary. zum, swf, Action was the key-note of the Upsilon Delta Sigma as the mem- bers moved into the second season of debating since the reactivation of the society following the war. Action marked by two tours-one to the East including Fordham University, Rutgers, University of Penn., Temple, Catholic University, St. Vincent, and Duquesne and a northern trip includ- ing Toledo, John Carroll, University of Michigan, and West Michigan College. John Fisher and Walt Diver represented U.D. on the eastern tour and Paul Granzow and John McHugh stomped the northern loop. Both teams won the privilege of going on these trips on a competitive basis. The topic for this season which was accepted and used by all de- bating societies throughout the country was, Resolved: That a Federal World Government Should be Established. Further action of the society included several demonstraticns be- fore private groups within the city in addition to the regular Friday eve- ning meetings in Alumni Hall. Tentative plans for the traditional banquet and presentation of the President's Award have been announced by the moderator of the society Bro. Wm. O, Wehrle and this function will terminate an extraordinarily successful and active 1948219 debating season. The officers of the society are: President, Norris Helwig, Vice- President, John Steinbruggie, Secretary, Harry Humpert, Treasurer, John Fisher, Publicity, Edwin Seeboeck, Manager, Joseph Higgins. I The Student Council acts as an advisory body representing student opinion and presenting recommendations to the faculty. lt also strives to foster a spirit of cooperation and co-ordination among the various or- ganizations. The representatives are chosen at the annual class elections. Through a sinking fund, the Council gives financial backing to any affair that is sponsored by the recognized organizations on the campus with its consent. During the year the Council sponsored a barn dance, and cooper- ated with the spirit committee in the various pep rallies, including the homecoming festivities. lt sent representatives to the convention of the National Association of Students in preparation for making a decision in regard to joining the association. The officers of the group were James Finke, president, Frank Hol- lenkamp, vice-president, Vera Seller, secretary, and Peter Kuntz, treasurer.

Consistent winner over a decade of years of the All-American and All-Catholic awards, the University of Dayton news-sheet is in the front rank of outstanding college newspapers. The moderator is George F. Kohles, S.M., MA. Supported by more than a score of journalists, James R. Dunne, editor-in-chief from Mayfield Heights, Ohio, and Edward J. O'Neil, sports editor from Dayton, Ohio, have kept the newspaper representative of the highest achievement.
