UCI I has been said, and properly en. nf the material side nf the Medical M Collegeithe college and hospital buildings combining t0 fnrm the finest medical institution in the world, the marvelous equipment. the complete- ness of the institulion as a place of medical education. Much, also. has been properly said of the high standard of medical teaching, the faciulty comprising as it does. many men of national and international reputation. But from the sLLidcnt's standpoint. nothing affords quite so much pleasure and gratihcation as the spirit of fellowship LhaL exists between the faculty and student body. We believe that in no school is there evidenced a nwrc sincere and friendly desire on the part of successful teachers and practitioners of medicine to become definite factors in developing good physicians. They are easy of access on any subject pertaining to student life. We know of no instance. regardless 0f time and piace, where faculty members: have not been willing and glad In give advice and assistance to groups or individuals of the student body whn came to them. Every opportunity is given to the student to make his medical course as profitable as pussible. N0 student is dented personal contact with his professor. And as we know them better our respect and regard for them is increased. Being clnscly asanciated with successful medical men who embody the highest ideals of the profession provides great incentive for successful and well-directecl effort. 5? 5k 4! 5k is Up unLil the war, there existed in Cincinnati a society composed of a gnndly number of men all of whom had sojourned more or loss extensively as interns at the Cincinnati General Hospital. it was a laudable organization embodying the highest spirit of gnnd-fellnwship, whose gatherings, we are told, were events of high importanCc in the annals of Cincinnati's medical life. During the war, with 50 many members in service, its activities were permithd Lo lag and it has not been revived. But the organization remains intact. Lest il perish entirely. we humbly urge its officers to again call its members together. The Class of 1921 has eighteen men who will soon be eligible for membership and are anxious to join. We can also furniSh 21 membership list. As medical students. we favor cooperation. coordination. cuudunation. cuaptationeanything in fact, except meducatiun. i: :e: a? a: 4: W7C are not going to make the customary apologies for this Year Book. We admit, without hesitance. that it has a few shortcomings. Many things could have been added to increase its excellence. No doubt. numerous mis- takes have been made in its compilation. been omitted. For these and other things we are sincerely regretful. But we did the best we could. It is the hrst of its kind in Cincinnati. tin fact. only a few oi the very large medicai schools of the enuntry attempt a publication of this kind. With these we invite comparisonj So we have had no standard other than our knowledge that Hnothing is too good for this school. The responsibility has rested entire'ly with one class of the college. The work has been done by a few individuals. We have been handicapped by inexperience. limited time and a multiplicity of demands incident to preparing ourselves to become worthy members of the great body of alumni of the College of Medicine. We were told that a volume of this kind could not be successfully published. But we have succeeded beyond our expectation and in presenting this book to you we take a certain amount of pride. We feel that it is worthy to repree sent the school. In recent years there has been established in many of the leading medical schools of the country, Student Medical Societies, which have developed into important and valuahie adjuncts to the student's education. The purpose of these organizations is to band together certain groups of students, regardless of Iraternai or ether affiliations, who are interested especially in some branch of medicine, in order that the subject may be given more intensive study than is provided in the curriculum of the college. Ordinarily, a professor of that subject is chosen as patron and the society is named in his honor. Meetings are held once or twice a month at which time original papers are presented by students and discussed in open meeting. Discussions are also held on articles appearing from time to time in the medical literature. The patron of the society attends the meetings and acts as moderator in the discussions. We feel that there should be such societies in this college. It is certain that the faculty would cooperate in their formation. Sieps were taken toward this end during the past year but certain Obstacles prevented the success of the attempt. These obstacles will not be again encountered and we urge the student body to dehnitely inaugurate the movement next fall. Page Two Hundred Eight
