E 'ww Bbw Rush tensions are released when sorority pledges enthusiastically run down the hill to meet their awaztzn active sisters As teas and parties become more concentrated, fraternity eavesdropping intensifies, and feet seem harder than ever to lit into shoes, sorority rush eventually reaches its traditional peak of tension, indecision, and inspired voices . . . culminating in the anxious moments before opening a bid, and the clamoring relief of pledge Sunday. Shouting and laughter are everywhere when the oblivious pledge receives her awkward but long remembered escort down the well-beaten path that leads to pledg- ing . . . its furor and its finality. Yet this finality is already evolving into a beginning . . . the beginning of panhellenic thinking, of molded roleplaying that strives to become harmony, of close group-centered living, of symbolic meaning that seeks creative outlet, of conforming to an idealism which will pass on leaving a permanent mark.

FRATERNITY RUSH NETS 650 ENTHUSIASTIC PLEDGES President Langsam addresses the rushees at the IFC Smoker, the opening event of fraternity rush. For two weeks you smile, introduce yourself, and start out conversations with What college are you in? or How was registration? or Have you seen the house? This eventually progresses to We'd like to see you back again, Fred, and How about moving into the house for a few days to see what fraternity life is really like. As a fraternity man you try to impress the rushee, you make yourself interested in his prob- lems, you drink beer with him and scrutinize him carefully- after all, he may be your future room-mate. The rushman also makes his best appearance-he wants to be accepted-he may drink beer for the first time, for now that he's in college he must be collegiate. Finally the two weeks are over and 650 men have been pledged by nineteen fraternities-two short weeks that you thought would never end, two short weeks to decide which men you'll be closest to in your college years.
