Their quality is dependent on the physical plant, the administration, faculty, and students. The curriculum is determined by the administration and the faculty pre- sents it to the students. Possibly the greatest lesson is that there is more to be learned. Education is a preparation for one,s vocation and is a time for experimentation and ques- tioning. TEACHERS College seniors gain experience not o+herwise obtainable by conduc+ing actual classes. Many universities accompany lee- tures with laboratory courses, for it has been recognized that knowl- edge must be demonstrated and used. F ield trips and labs are aca- demic methods to acquire practi- cal knowledge. Cooperative edu- cation is another, in which students alternate studying theory and recent developments in class with using the knowledge on a coop job. Afternoons are con- sumed in labs, from bus ad aC- counting and applied arts creat- ing to scientific experimenting. Part of every academic life is the advanced tclabsh where directions are no longer given, but derived, and results on which the advance- ment of humanity may rest are carried out through research. research is basis SENIOR chemical engineers opera+e quuid-quuid exfracfion colum in fi'Hh-year lab.
