KOREA . . . and young Americans were called lo serve the free world by defending firs'l' of many frouble spo+s. Time passes quickly for college people; their way of life leaves far less iifreeb time than planned, only enough for an occasional contact with the outside. A graduate student doing advanced research is less a part of the campus than the average collegian living in his own special world; neither is far from realizing that he might be behind a rifle in the next conflict; an ROTC hopeful must face the fact continually, yet it is not his primary concern. N ightly libulll, sessions and group seminars are a studentis way of probing life and its Challenges. Whether he is cornplaining about his love life or arguing foreign policy, he IS preparing for the future by defining and analyzing today 5 problems and advancing a solution, if only 1n theory. Even if he often speaks with an expression best understood by other students, he will be more able because of today. He draws impressions from the outer world but his crowded life leaves little time for returning a contribu- tion. This will come later ..... after graduation. A spit of land in Florida called Canaveral periodically drew attention as the armed forces engaged in the fateful race for a balance of power. The Little Rock dispute sharply outlined an acute change in our social system. The student, in his quest, could not be apathetic 0r complacent. Possibly he was more engrossed in Homecoming than the Cuban revolution and missed the Berlin ultimatum because of pre- Christmas exams. His research and his activities developed him for his future vocation. He studied harder and played harder, everything went faster. A new era was arrivingedeveloping a more universal man.
