The College of Engineering is noted for its cooperative system of education which has been adopted by many leading educational institutions throughout the world. Established by Dean Herman Schneider in 1906, its traditions have been carried on by Dean Robert C. Gowdy who resigned this spring. The College is now entering upon a new postwar era under the capable and experienced leadership of Acting Dean C. Albert Joerger. Separated now from the Colleges of Applied Arts and Business Administration which it sponsored, the College of Engineering will return to the rugged traditions of earlier years. An engineer can always be distinguished from other students by the slide rule which he carries and by the worried expression which his countenance bears after his return from seven weeks at work.
