The McMicken College of Liberal Arts THE McMieken College Of Liberal Arls followed lhe organization of the. University, 1871, in 1874. Stu- dents had received 11181111611011 in 1873, from t'aehers 01' VVoodwal'd High School. From 1875 to 18933, the Academic Department occupied lhe building 011 the grounds of lhe MeMieken homestead, as required by the will 01' lhe founder. Steps were taken in 1893, for Ehe erection of McMiCken Hall in Burnel XVnocls, f orty-thl'ee acres of which had been set aside by lhe municipaiily as a site for lhe University. During 1895 and 1896. Hanna Hall was built for the. Depart- menis of Chemistry and Engineering wiih funds provided by Henry Hanna. Cunninghmn Hall was added, through the interest of Briggs S Cunningham, in 1898 and 1900. The Van Wrormer Lib 11137 followed in 1898 and now boasts of a collection of 66,528 volumes. In answer to an urgent need for the higher education of those whose obligations during the day prohibit their al- tendance al the regular classes. evening academic instruction was instituted in 1912, in connection with the College of Connnerce.
