Gaining insight on the external of- ten depends on wisdom harvested from the realm of the intemal. It is with this in mind that we present the 1987 SCROLL--a record of the 1986-1987 academic year, written with you in mind and created as we explore life at UCA from the inside out. University life is by its very na- ture subject to being dealt with in an inside-out framework. Underneath the daily hustle and bustle of academics, undemeath the external factors influencing our lives, there exists a labryrinth of in- ternal factors which determine our choice from the far reaching array of options that perpetually spin be- fore us like multicolored leaves falling in a crisp autumn wind. It is these internal factors which most inspire us to deliberation and ac- tion. We are challenged by the in- ternal to acquire the level of reason and human dignity necessary to deal with those choices which lie within the boundaries of the external. Not only can the internal be approached from the internal viewpoint, it can also be understood in a more far-reaching sense: that the university combines students, faculty, administrators, and staff into a responsive network of concerned, caring individuals who are becoming experts at dealing with university life from the inside out. UCA is a rapidly growing, in- creasingly selective university, and it comes as no surprise that its competitive drive and winning edge continued 2 Opening Maid.
