President Dr. Snow sees SCA position enhanced Dr. Silas D. Snow's l7th year as president of State College of Arkansas began with maior develop- ments that will further enhance the college's leader- ship position in higher education in Arkansas. The college was reorganized into four colleges and its administrative and business affairs regrouped into four areas. A new master's degree program in nursing was created and before the year is out work will be in full swing toward the development of it. The Southwest Center for Staff Development in Early Education was created at SCA. The Center's program is aimed at finding new ways to teach chil- dren and is one of the most revolutionary in the nation. In October, Dr. Snow announced the establish- ment of the SCA School of Health Science and Profes- sions. The school is part of the College of Fine and Applied Arts and Sciences and began operations in January in cooperation with the Arkansas Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. Under Dr. Snow's leadership, the SCA-ROTC program and the college's Counseling Center were established in l968. Since Dr. Snow became president on July l, l953, SCA has experienced its greatest years of growth and prosperity. It is somehow fitting that the man who has guided the college in its finest hours is a product of the institution. He grew up in the shadows of SCA and was graduated from the school. He was editor of the Scroll and president of the student body while an SCA student. As president of the college, Dr. Snow is respon- sible for executing the plans and policies of the Board of Trustees. The growth of SCA-4,620 enrollment, more than 800 courses from 55 different programs of study, 200 faculty members, millions of dollars worth of new buildings-reflect the iob he has to do and has done. President Snow speaks at the Memorial Day Dress Review praising the ROTC Brigade for its accomplishments.
