vXc oday, frontiers are more challeng- ing than those of the Overland Trail, It is no longer a challenge of nature, but more a challenge of the forces of nature that are working for us. Pioneering new frontiers at the University of Wyoming is President G. D. Humphrey. One of the outstanding accomplishments President Humphrey has done since he came to the University has been to help extend all University services to different parts of the state. This has been achieved through broadening and developing com- munity services, correspondence courses, and general extension. He also has great interest in increased co- operation with towns where University Centers are located, the helping and de- velopment of Casper Junior College, in- tensification of work at the University farms in eight parts of the state. President Humphrey has helped further education in the fields of veterinary medicine and dentistry in eleven of the western states, and has inaugurated education, business, and resources research, which include ex- periments in atomic energy. President Humphrey looks on as Governor Crane lays corner stone at New Education Building.

% d Main, which once housed the entire University of Wyoming, remains the principal building on the campus. In it are the many adminis- trative offices of the President, the Deans, the Board of Trustees, and all the other people in high places who help rule this Kingdom of 144 acres. University Hall, or Old Main, as it is familiarly known on the campus, was completed in 1887 and extensively remodeled in 1949. All the old interior was taken out and replaced by new fixtures, such as masonry walls, steel windows with plate glass, and concrete stairways. The old auditorium was taken out and made into office suites for the administra- tive staffs of Personnel, Adult Education, Veterans ' Relations, Student Employment, and Property. The remodeling of Old Main was only a small portion of the $7,500,000 building program which is making the University of Wyoming campus one of the finest in the Nation. 8
