H. M. Briggs Dean of Agriculture R. R. Hamilton Dean of Law DEANS AND DEPARTMENT HEADS This year, the theme of our WYO is New Fron- tiers. Befitting our theme, we have asked some of the Deans and Department heads to speculate on the exploration and development of new frontiers still to be pioneered in each of their departments. Dean H. M. Briggs was not in Laramie at the time of the WYO interviews and was therefore not avail- able for comment. This is Dr. Briggs ' first year as head of the College of Agriculture, and we are sure he has many ideas for developing and exploring new frontiers in Agriculture. Dean R. R. Hamilton: Although it may be a sur- prise to many people, we do not plan to have too much of an increase in enrollment because we do not wish to overpopulate the state with lawyers. However, we do plan to extend our legal services to various agencies in the state. Dean David O ' Day: Being a comparatively new de- partment in the university, we have a great many plans for expansion, such as increasing library facili- ties, installing two new laboratories, and the taking over of the first three floors of Merica Hall. Dean Mundell: The College of Commerce and In- dustry is working on improvements and changes in each four-year curriculum and in each individual course. y Fay E. Smith Fiscal Consultant ADMINISTRATION Mr. Fay E. Smith knows that the cost of running a University is high. He is one of the financial wiz- ards who helps keep the budget under control. Bell gave us the telephone, Morse gave us the tele- graph, but Walt Miller gave us the seven cent bottle of pop. He is taking our Union out of the red and is putting it on solid financial ground. When John Jones or Mary Smith cracks the Honor Roll or does something else equally difficult. Miss Gertrude Dorety is the one who sends their names in to the home-town newspaper. She serves as pub- licity agent for all the students on the campus. Mr. H. L. Van Blair is the keeper of the A.S.U.W. books. He is the man who gets hot on your trail if he finds that you owe the University money. He keeps strict surveillance on the school budget. R. Dr. S. H. Knight was in Washington D. C. at the time he was scheduled for interview and so we could not contact him for a statement. Dr. Knight has served the University of Wyoming for many years and is outstanding in the field of geology. Dean H. T, Person: Our main frontiers for explora- tion in this department are expansion in graduate work in engineering and increased research activity. We will continue our program of top-notch under- graduate work in all fields. Dr. Robert H. Burns, one of America ' s outstanding experts in wool, was not available for comment on the expansion of his department in future years. Dean O. C. Schwiering: In the future, our five-year unified training program will be developed to train elementary and secondary teachers at the same time. One quarter of required Internship Training will be introduced. Our dreams will come true when the new education building is completed. It will be one of the finest training plants in the United States. Dean O. H. Rechard: The strengthening of present offerings, the development of programs for general education, expansion into fields appropriate to the college but hitherto uncultivated, and continued emphasis on stimulating teaching — these carry challenges of new, unexplored frontiers.
