0 2 January of 1950, 87 girls moved into the new South Wing of Knight Hall. Completion of the addition marked another step in fulfill ' ment of the dream of providing pleasant, comfortable, modern housing for all girls on the campus, which began in 1940 with Knight Hall itself. The new wing alleviated the problem of housing for women which existed at the time, by taking in many of the girls who had lived in town and about 20 sorority girls. There are 33 double rooms, and seven rooms for three along its spacious corridors. The rooms are homey, airy, and dec- orated in soft pastels. Although it adjoins Knight Hall and uses many of the same facilities. South Wing functions as an independent unit, with its own office and reception rooms. Like the rest of the building, the ad- dition is of native stone from the University ' s own quarries. Careful landscaping leading up to the gracious entrance helps to make this mas- sive structure one of the most beautiful on the campus. •» »fi iW ' C 12 :

C he he 160 rooms and 105,613 square feet of floor space will enable the College of Education to handle about twice the December, 1949 en- rollment, then at an all-time high of 600 students. The building will include a nursery-kindergarten, a 12-grade laboratory school, college classrooms, service rooms and extremely modern clinical facilities. Also included will be an auditorium 60 by 65 feet, and a regu- lation high school gym with a playing floor 50 by 84 feet. It will include all this plus very classy, very scientific, very modern, green blackboards in the classrooms. The gigantic building should be finished next summer. 14
