Registration Hassles For the first time in UW-W's histo- ry, class selections were made with t e assistance of a computer. To some, the headaches of the Williams Center maze disap eared. To others, the pain worseneg. Experts placed 97 to 1 odds a ainst success in changing or ad ing sections. And they were proven right, as students faced hours of lines, a es of waiting lists, and solidly fille c asses. Finally, the traumas lessened and ,classes were scheduled. If you were luc , the schedule ou held in your han faintly resembled your original dream. Too many times, that Friday class you ended up with had manda- tory attendance, one prof had only an 8:00-9:15 class, and another re- uired section was late Friday. But t ere it was in front of you, and it would only be for three months, anyway. Finally registration was over with. All that remained was the problem of surviving a semester of classes. As 1979 moved into 1980, UW-W students, with mixed emotions, fol- lowed. Life usettled, but never real- ly became routine. There were those days when superhuman will-power was needed to make that trek to Heide, or to actually concentrate on the blackboard 21 rows ahead in lec- ture. Piles of articles to read, speak- ers to hear, bills to pay, recitals to at- tend, and laundry to wash cluttered minds. College life went on. The new semester brought new challenges - new subjects to tackle, new classes to survive, different teachers to communicate with. Some challenges, though, just seemed to be a lot harder than others. To some, it was that computer class creating problems. To others, the job that had promised so much wasntt living up to expectations. Problems got you down. Yet, some force juggled events to balance Out moods. Lifestyles 25
