STUDENT COUNCIL The purpose of the Student Council is to pro- vide students with self-government by carrying out student policies. The council's activities in- clude the all-school picnic, the awarding of the scholarship plaque, the aIl-school fall mixer, the conducting of elections and the carrying out of school policies. Members also participate in the Welfare Committee, allocations of student activity fees, Convocation Committee, Recreation Committee, Student Union Board, Student Health Insurance Committee, and the Library Commit- tee. The Student Council meets on the first and third Mondays of each month. President Dave Camplin heads the list of 1959-1960 officers with Monte Bluske, Vice President; Mary Winther Marcus, Secretary; and Don Vande Sand, Treasurer. The sponsors are Miss Forbush and Dr. Droullcrd. Council members are elected by the student body and must be full time students and have a gradepoint average of 1.25. The Royal Purple is the weekly newspaper of W.$.C. There are no requirements for becoming a reporter, but one year's experience is neces- sary before becoming an editor on the paper. The paper is sent upon request to other schools and to alumni. Each year awards are presented to all editors and to the best reporters. A banquet was held in the spring for the staff. ATNS OFFICERS Pat Costigan, Carol Thiers, Mary Wesemann, Bette Cunningham, Karen Knaak, Dean Forbush. AWS Upon enrollment in the College, all women students automatically become members of As- sociated Women Students. The AWS Council is composed of the officers and twenty-one de- partmental and class representatives who are etected annually by the women students in each class. The primary purpose of the Association is to assist in the development of college policies re- lating specifically to women students. Other ac- tivities include the publication of the Student Handbook, 0 social program highlighted by the annual Women's Dinner, a series of monthly convocations for women students, the Pre-Exom 24 Breakfast, 0 charity drive, a spring banquet, a householders tea, maintenance of the womenhs lounge, and participation in freshman orienta- tion through the Big and Little Sister picnic. The special requirement for Council members is a TC average, and the officers must have a C plus or 1.5 average. The officers were Betty Cunningham, presi- dent; Karen Knock, secretory; Carol Thiers, treasurer; and Patricia Costigan, Royal Purple reporter. The sponsor of AWS is Miss Core For- bush.
