THERE ARE TWO WAYS OF SPREADING LIGHT: TO BE THE CANDLE OR THE MIRROR THAT REFLECTS IT. Edith Wharton DEDICATION We, the 1961 Gitche Gurnee staff, dedicate this pictorial record of the past year on the Superior State Campus to two women of the faculty — Miss Dorothy Waite and Miss Bernice Cooper — whose dedicated scholarly contributions will be missed by the many students, associates, and friends to whom they have reflected the Light of Knowledge for over three decades. Each of these women possess the spirit of truo scholarship — intellectual curiosity and educational devotion. Each of them readily and happily shared this spirit with others. Each found time for student’s questions. Each took time to seek the answers. For those students who honestly sought to develop their capabilities, the sincere willingness of their guidance was a source of Inspiration. We are certain that Miss Waite and Miss Cooper will take with them fond memories of the years on our campus. It is hoped that this small book will serve as a tangible lasting symbol of a relationship that we shall never forget.
