The 1953 grid season ended on a high note for the injury-ridden Yellowjackets, with rousing victories over Stout Institute and Michigan Tech of Houghton, both games played away from home. The record for the season was three wins and four losses. The DiMarco men ended in eighth place in the conference, which was won by LaCrosse and Plafteville. Superior's lone conference win was against Stout. Season's Record We They Sept. 19 Duluth 14 13 Sept. 26 Eau Claire 0 12 Oct. 3 St. Norbert 6 25 Oct. 10 River Falls 0 21 Oct. 16 La Crosse 0 38 Oct. 24 Stout Institute 19 7 Oct. 31 Michigan Tech 34 16 Cal Kessler, who started the season with the Yellow-jackets as an end, and later was shifted to the fullback spot for the last two games of the season, was picked by the Wisconsin state college coaches and athletic directors as an outstanding back on a 22-man honor squad. No first and second teams were chosen in the conference this year. 25
