Dedication In deep appreciation for life-long service to education in Northern Wisconsin, the student body of the Superior State Teachers College dedicates this 1937 edition of the Gitche Gumee to Mrs. Jessie Crownhart. Mrs. Crownhart—then Jessie Evans—entered into the school system of Superior in 1890. During her tenure of office Miss Evans was married to Charles Crownhart, a young attorney of Superior. Married life did not end her educational career and two years later Mrs. Crownhart was appointed Douglas County Superintendent of Schools—the first woman to hold that office. Although she left that office four years later, Mrs. Crownhart continued to watch the progress of Wisconsin educational institutions. During the years 1907-1912, when her husband. Judge Crownhart, was Regent for the Superior State Normal School, she shared his devotion. Known as a friend of education. Mrs. Crownhart was appointed in 1931 to the Board of Regents for all the Wisconsin Teachers Colleges. In this unsalaried and self-sacrificing capacity she continues to guard the interests she has loved and worked for so long. Nln«
