“Sno-A-Go-Go”. the sixth annual WSU-SP Pointer Winter Carnival began with the now traditional torch-run from Madison and torch lighting ceremony on Sunday. February 13. Len Marcisz. General Chairman, announced at that time that this years’ carnival would be dedicated to Norman E. Knutzen. founder of the WSU Men's Glee Club and director of the group for more than 30 years. This years’ carnival program included a kick-oil' dance: contests for hairdos, legs, and unusual dress; endurance contests including pipe smoking and pancake eating; an evening of outdoor sports: the Wood-choppers Ball and the appearance of the Kingston Trio at the climax program. A new feature was the Legs Contest; there was both a man's and a woman's division. The categories were the cutest knees, the shapliest legs, the best decorated socks, the hairiest legs and the smoothest legs. Another new contest was the dress-up competition. A single costume appropriate for an A-Go-Go party, a masquerade ball on the ski slopes and an elegant soire at ’’PointilTany’s’’ was planned to challenge the ingenuity of the contestants. The Woodchoppers Ball on Saturday evening was highlighted by the crowning of the King and Queen. Jerry Glocke and Fran Lewis. The climax program on Sunday night featured the Kingston Trio. The Trio has performed before audiences in most of the top night clubs in the world. They have drawn sell-out crowds at the Hollywood Bowl, the Waikiki Shell, Red Rocks and Las Vegas. They have toured the Far East, Europe and Australia. Here at WSU the trio presented some of their most famous songs including, Tom Dooley”. Tijuana Jail”. Where Have All the Flowers Gone” and Greenback Dollar”.
