ELIZABETH PFIFFNER Ph.M. Dean of Women College life is a many-sided affair. It includes weekly assignments, term papers, exams, bull sessions, teas, initiations, songfests and homecoming activities, to name a few. It’s the things you learn, the people you meet, the ideas you glean and the satisfactions you derive from your experiences and contacts. It's the humility you feel in the presence of great knowledge and the joy you experience when a difficult task is completed. It’s the dreams and hopes and aspirations you realize as you pursue your course only to find you have outgrown some of the old ones but are finding new ones in their place. And so college is a continuous and challenging experience — full of joys and sorrows — expressing different things to different people but always opening new doors and new visions to those who look. DEANS OF MEN AND WOMEN ORLAND E. RAI)KE M.S. Dean of Men This year has been a rewarding one and I am pleased to have been a part of it. 1 point with pride to this student body and respect you for what you have done and what you stand for. You, as young people of America, have challenged the role of higher education and this is good. It is now necessary for us to produce both Doers who can think and Thinkers who can do. I hope you will always refuse to seek the safe places and the easy tasks and to wrestle with the toughest problems and difficulties. One of the rewards of learning to do hard things is the capacity for doing still harder things. 13
