1957 - ANOTHER YEAR? 1957 — another year — another Iris — another senior class graduating from Central State in June — anodier freshman class coming in September to replace those who graduated! Is that what it is? Or is it a new and golden opportunity for each of us — an opportunity to be welcomed, explored and used in full measure — for it will never return in its present form. So it should mean a great Iris. It should mean seniors going out to teach or to do some other work — performing so well that their accomplishments will reflect credit on themselves, on their college, their families, and their communities. It should mean freshman students entering, determined to make a college record that will be a credit to them, to their high schools, to their families. Just another year - or a golden opportunity? What makes the difference? Ability? Hardly! We all have ability in varied forms and degrees. Desire makes the difference. The opportunity exists only if we have the desire to avail ourselves of it. We achieve little that’s worth-while in life without real desire to achieve. Wm. C. Hansen President

FRESHMAN CLASS Assumes Many Roles During Homecoming Frenzy When the freshmen entered school in September, teas, dances, and assemblies kept them socially busy for the first weeks. Then came a sudden lag in activities when they realized that the upper classmen had more to do than entertain them for the year. Wondering if they would ever feel the hustle and bustle that had now overcome so many “old-timers”, they were suddenly surrounded with Homecoming activities. They were now a part of the mad rush”. Between preparations for floats and the gathering pf junk for the bon fire, they somehow found time to vote for the girl they wanted for queen. When it was all over, there were neglected assignments and make up tests that needed attention. Wondering if Thanksgiving vacation would ever come, they settled back, trying to ignore the hustle and bustle of the upper-classmen, and sighed, “It’ll be different next year”! Bessette. D.
