FACULTY PERSONALITIES NESTOR FLODIN One of the newcomers to C.S.T.C., Mr. Flodin has already been marked as a man who will go far in his profession. His scholarly attitude and his deep knowledge of the intricacies of chemistry set him off as a man who knows what he is talking about, and why! No older than many students in our college, Mr. Flodin is already far in his study of chemistry and has received the status of Ph.D. from Chicago University. CHARLES EVANS In Mr. Evans our school has indeed been fortunate, for besides being an interesting and instructive teacher, he possesses an extraordinary sense of humor which he illustrates by a collection of ''par-excellence” jokes. Well-known and liked by all, Mr. Evans fills a prominent place in the student heart, for he is right in there as organizer of the Homecoming Parade and numefous other pep functions. His hobbies are hunting, fishing, amateur carpentry and a bird-dog named Jerry. It would be hard to say which one occupies the most important place in his scope of activities, for all take a great share of his interest and time. ERNEST SMITH The veteran faculty member from the point of years of service in this school, Mr. Smith truly represents the spirit of devotion to service and work which has made this college rise from a comparatively small Normal school to one of the largest and best Teachers colleges in Wisconsin. His scholarship and keen observation of world affairs make him an interesting, popular instructor and speaker. His knowledge of the background of this school and his own personal ability make him a happy choice for the position of acting president, which he has filled for the past semester. [15]

ADMINISTRATION E. T. SMITH W. S. DELZELL Central State Teachers College is an institution which fills a dual role in the field of education. It not only is an institution of higher learning, where young men and women may achieve education in the arts and sciences, but, as a training school for teachers, is a vital force in the entire educational structure of the state. To maintain the progress that has marked the history of Central State is the challenge to all of us, and it is a privilege and a pleasure for me to be associated, in this exalted service, with a faculty so loyal and a student body so spirited as those at Central State. Sincerely, Regent. DEAN STEINER We do not live in a static civilization. The world changes and to be efficient, we must change with it. Perhaps one of the greatest challenges today is: Can you keep pace with an ever changing world?” Nor is it sufficient to conform. Never before has there been greater need for leadership. It has ever been the aim of Central State Teachers College to keep abreast of the times in its field of endeavor to provide educational leadership. It is a pleasure to have this opportunity to greet the college: in this respect the members of the Iris staff have been most considerate. Of course, we all regret the loss of President Falk. His leadership gave every promise of being most productive. But the school must go on and it will be my constant care to make it go forward in every constructive path. It is my hope to hand the institution over to its new head, soon to be chosen, in better shape than I received it. This is a high ambition and I wish to seek the active cooperation of all, students and faculty alike, in its realization. • J, Acting President.

FACULTY PERSONALITIES ARTHUR LYNESS As instructor in the Department of Biological Science. Dr. Lyness is an integral part of our school system. His kind, efficient and systematic teaching has left its good mark on many of our students. Truly a man of strong spirit and will. Dr. Lyness is one whom the students feel to be a true friend of all, and the kindly helper of many. HERBERT STEINER As an alumnus of this school, by his marriage to a C.S.T.C. graduate, by the graduation of two sons from this college and with a daughter who is a student here at the present time, plus his very active association with the school as Dean of Men and History instructor, Mr. Steiner may truly be said to be rather definitely attached to Central State Teachers College. Humorous, jovial, he is one of the most popular of the school's professors. Teacher, friend and sportsman, his interests are varied and fascinating. His main avocational interests are fishing, hunting and his Waupaca Lakes cottage. HELEN GORMLEY As the new physical education instructor. Miss Pat Gormley has brought to this institution a very interesting personality and outstanding ability. Popular with the students, her gay smile and cheery Hi have made her well-known about the campus. Active socially as well as in a curricular way, she attends many of the social functions during the school year. [161
