I car Friend : The true American welcomes difficulties, believing that it is better to have tried and lost than never to have tried at all; only a coward demands a sure thing. Such a man wants to test his strength and feels bound to use bencficicntly all that God has given him. he deems it wrong to let a single possible talent go unused, and it is therefore only by trial that he can know how much has been given him to use. A real American, therefore, considers himself under sacred obligations to test himself out—to learn his full strength or perchance his weakness—and this wholly regardless of personal success or failure as viewed by the usual standards. The real victory is in making the fight and this sort of highest victory is reserved only for him who can rejoice in its achievement while smiling at the possible disappointment of the day.
