There are also lines of students, especially noticeable during registration and at meal times. These last-mentioned lines are destined to grow longer. The freshman class this year is larger than the entire student body in 1946. It seems only yesterday that much publicity was given the fact that enrollment had reached 1,000. Yet, this year, it appeared scarcely noteworthy when we passed the 2,000 mark. It was expected. But today's enrollments will seem small in the very near future. Current projections show an enrollment of more than 3,500 by 1970 and a student body of 5,700 by 1980, a college population greater than the present population of the City of River Falls. This means that the College will have an even greater responsibility. It means that the faculty and administration must prepare now to continue giving the best possible education to the many who will follow you. The growth of the institution also places greater responsibility on you. What you make of your opportunity for education and the direction you set for your College will reflect not only on you but on many others. Your continued interest in the College and your support of its programs after you graduate will be essential if River Falls is to maintain its standards of excellence. Our record has been an enviable one. The accomplishments of the past decade once seemed improbable to many. They have been possible because of the loyalty of students, faculty and alumni. I am sure that those of you who are presently enrolled will continue this tradition and that the long lines to follow will benefit from what you have helped to build. Sincerely yours, E. H.
