The School of Education We see by the glad light and breathe the siceet air of futurity, and so we live or else we have no life. — William Wordsworth Oldest of the three schools at River Falls is the School of Education, for the College was founded in 1874 to prepare teachers. Though the demand for teachers was considered vital then, it was small when contrasted with today’s requirements. Teachers in elementary, junior high, high schools and colleges are needed urgently. In its many years of service, River Falls has pioneered in educating teachers. Its graduates are serving in all parts of the United States and in many foreign countries. The Base Line— General Education if you do not think about the future you cannot have one. —John Galsworthy All students at River Falls, whether enrolled in the School of Education, the School of Agriculture, or the School of Arts and Sciences, receive a foundation of basic courses designed to develop the attitudes, the abilities and the interests that mark the educated person—those features that cause him to lead a more satisfying and successful life. This foundation serves to make his education a continuing process that does not end with graduation. It serves also to introduce him to those areas of learning with which he may have had no previous contact and helps him in choosing those fields in which he may want to concentrate his efforts. The College offers an Honors Program and an Independent Study Program for the student of outstanding academic ability. Credit is given in certain courses to the student who can demonstrate, by examination, that he has sufficient knowledge of a subject. Outside Reading Science Lecture
