The footbel squad consisted mainly of freshmen, several of whom lacked even high school footbel experience. Only three lettor-mon returned from lest year's squad. With this materiel the Manion-man opened tho season at Remor Field against a Nevy-bolstorod St. Olaf team composed largely of former college stars. Tho Olos used their weight and experience advantage to win by a 20-0 count. Tho Falcons got into the win column against tho Rod Wing Training School eleven in the second homo game of the season. 33-12. Hitt scored for the Falcons on a neatly executed quarterback play. Tho final game of tho season was played at Northneld against a powerful St. Olaf dub that had bean running rough-shod over other Navy-strengthened teams in the latter part of the season. The Oles tricky reverses and effective down-field blocking gave them several long scoring dashes and an easy 66-6 victory. The Falcons got thoir only score in the second quarter after a sustained drive from deep in their T na kvtbaU The 1944-1945 Falcon basketball team began the season as an unknown quantity, as only one veteran of last year's team returned, but the newcomers proved they had something as they swept to five straight victories in tho opening games. Those victories included homo-and-homo wins ovor Augsburg and Macalester and a victory over Concordia on tho Rivor Fall floor. Tho first defeat of the season was suffered at tho Hamline field house at the hands of the powerful Hemline Pipers by a 66-29 score.
