Tho first homo game brought o thrilling victory over undefeated Mocolester. McCardlo and Deiss led a fourth quarter rally that overcame the Mac load and turned defeat into a win. Deiss garnered 14. and McCardle got 7 in the last quartor. Aftor tho holidoy respite the Falcons played brilliant ball against a highly touted St. Thomas five that had lost only one game and that to the Great Lakes. The score was Falcons 15. Tommies 14 at halftime, but the Rod and White faded in the last quarter to lose, 10-30. McCardlo set the Falcon season high with seven baskets and six free throws for £0 points. Faxvog followed with 16. In the next home game the Manionmen were edged out in an overtime. 55-47. St. Olaf scored 11 points in this extra session after the regular game had ended in a 44-44 deadlock. Deiss led with 10 points. Ellingson got 27 and Guse 16 for 43 of St. Olaf s 55. The Falcons opened conference play at Superior and lost a fast-moving, free-scoring affair. 68-50. By the way. the temperature was —39° at tho same time this hot shooting was taking place. Rasmussen and C. Brooke led the scoring with 12 and II points respectively. Titus and Morris, Superior guards, ware on a scoring spree, collecting 23 and 18 points. River Falls was walloped to the tune of 64-37 on the home floor at the hands of Stout, conference champions. The Falcons looked tired after their Superior trip. Sullivan picked up 9 points. Hesselman had 16 points for Stout. The Manionmen journeyed to La Crosse and lost. 38-32. It was a well-played game, but the Falcons were badly off form in shooting. Rasmussen and C. Brooke eoch connected for 9 points. The Falcons pulled the upset of the year at Eau Claire by defeating the previously undefoatod and conference-leading Bluejays, 42-39. At the half River Falls was leading, 24-10. They held Eau Claire to two field goals the first half. Deis and McCardle peced the scoring with 13 and 10 points. The Falcons almost lost the ball game in the closing minutes when Rasmussen. McCardle. Poppy, and Storzer were ejected on personal fouls. Rasmussen held the Eau Claire center. Lehman, to 6 points. Playing LaCrosse at home, the Falcons were again off form in snooting and lost to the Indians. 50-36. La Crosse’s shooting percentage was uncanny, and River Falls was almost miserable. McCardle got 9, and Storzer 8 points. Novak chalked up 20 markers tor La Crosse. The Falcons went to Stout and almost repeated last year s upset of the conference champions, but finally dropped a thriller. 52-50. Stout was leading at the half, 28-24. River Falls was leading with less than two minutes to play, but lost in the dosing seconds on free throws by Hesselman and Chartrow. Sullivan led the Falcons scoring with 13 points: Deiss followed with 11. Hesselman had 18 tor Stout. River Falls had another high-scoring game with the Superior Yellowjackets. The score was deadlocked at the half, 25-25. However. Deiss and McCardle had three fouls early in the game with Deiss later getting the fourth one. The final scoro was 55-44 for the Yollowjackots. McCardle picked up 18 points as did Nechak for Superior. The Falcons defeated Eau Claire for the second time, 48-40. in the final game of the season. River Falls was tho only team to turn tne trick. Rasmussen again checked Lehman, this time with two field goals. Deiss and McCardle had 15 and 13 points respectively. Rasmussen. C. Brooke, and Dosch have completed their college careers. Captain Rasmussen was one of tne most outstanding rebound and defensive men in the league. C. Brooke and Dosch, first year men on the varsity, played fine ball. Center The Falcons opened the 1942-43 s.ooson with but four former lettermen. Those veterans included Rasmussen. McCor-die, Poppy, and Baird. The squad received many setbacks, as quite a number of men were lost to the armed services. Don Baird, last year's center, enlisted around Christmas time. The opening game found the Falcons walking m on a Moca (ester practice session. Through a mix-up in the schedule the Red and White had arrived a day early. However, as soon as a couple of referees could be found, the game got under way. The game was disappointing with River Falls losing. 51-31. Deiss made good nine free throw attempts and led the scoring with 11 points. DeLepp. who led his conference in scorina, picked up 16 points. A much improveo Falcon club dropped a 45-38 contest to St. Olaf at Northfield. The score was close all the way with the Falcons on the short end of a 22-19 halftime score. The River Falls scorina was evenly divided, with Poppy getting 8. C. Brooke 7. Storcor end Baird 6 each. On the roed again the Menionmen lost to St. Thomas. 62-31. The score was 22-16. but the Falcons lost three men on fouls early in the second half. There were many substitutions made in an effort to find a winning combination. Deiss got 7 points: Hogan led St. Thomas with 12.

However, this does not mean the end of Falcon baseball. Far from it, because apparently the Red and White will be tough to beat this season. There ore nine lettermon still around and with a group of promising newcomers the situation is well in hand. Veteran pitchers. Poppy and Ott. plus catcher Stor zer. who hit .400 last year, give the Falcons on outstanding battery. The other lettermen include infielders, Drehmel, Grescnner. Mohlborg, and Nelson, a veteran of '38: outfielders, Ubbelohde and Thayer. Many men who would have been back are in the services. Greatest loss was Don Horn, veteran of three campaigns, who hit on even .400 lest season. 1943 Schedule Mey 4-—Eau Clairo (2)........................There May 12—Concordia .......................... There is not one veteran returning for tennis competition, end John Pruche is the only experienced men on the golf teem. However, school tournaments ere being held to select the members for this year's teams, and matches are being arranged. Booty Deiss. a dangerous man with a golf club, and Hugh McCerdb are prominent prospects. Bilderbech and Anderson round out the squad. The conference tournament will be hold at La Crosse. May IS. and River Fall will have e teem entered. Andrea. B. Brooke, and Vina are the most promising tennis players. They ere in the midst of the school tournament at this time and later will compete ageist [ outside schools. Bildorboch
