Opportunities for achievement at Pioneer College are many and varied, encouraging each student to be outstanding in his own way. Many means of recogni- tion exist in this college community. Athletic awards are received at an all-school assem- bly in the spring on Athletics Award Day. Journalis- tic, scholastic, and student teaching honors are award- ed at the Senior Banquet at the end of the academic year. Kings and queens of social events are honored by being selected by the student body. The Division of Technology offers two thor- ough and high level curriculums, Civil and Mining Engineering, in which a student may receive a Bachelor of Science degree. Also of- fered in the engineering area are courses in Pre-engineering for the students preparing for careers in Agriculture, Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, and Metallurgical Engineering. A student may concen- trate on kindergarten, primary grades, inter- mediate grades, or junior high school. He will receive first hand experience in any of these grades at the Edgar G. Doudna Laboratory School, here at Pioneer College, during his two semesters of student teaching. The division of Arts and Sciences curriculum offers the students who desire a bachelor of arts or sciences degree, a solid foundation for a full and rewarding life. It also prepares students in- terested in the pre-professional and technological fields, for further training in their careers. They may receive preparation in commerce, medicine, law, dentistry, forestry, nursing, phar- macy and journalism. A student may choose a Bachelor of Science degree in either of the four year curriculas, Ag- riculture or Agriculture Education. The Depart- ment of Agriculture Curriculum provides its students with the opportunity of examining the specialized areas of Vocational Agriculture teaching, combination of agriculture and other academic teaching majors, soil conservation field work and agriculture-business occupations. The Industrial Arts Department four year curriculum prepares a student for the teaching of this field and leads to a Bachelor of Science degree.
